Back to work!

Saturday was our first day at work. The whole staff here was split into 3 groups, those new folks working Saturday with Sunday off, those new folks working Sunday with Saturday off, and those who have done this before not working this weekend. Everyone will be working on Monday and will work 17-19 days straight through from there, but Monday – Wednesday will be the longest and hardest days.

Reinhart was with the gang putting down the floors and had to be at work at 7 am on Saturday. I was erecting tents on those floors, so I didn’t have to start until 9 am. When we woke up on Saturday morning, we cut on the radio and the Beastie Boys “Girls” was the first thing that came on, which reminded us of good times with the race team at Silvercreek…a big howdy to the Greensboro Ski and Outing Club. This was pretty much a training day, so we could see how things worked and we ended up only working until about 4:30. Reinhart actually learned all he needed to know by lunch and after that they took him to another site to load trailers; the team leaders were even fighting over who gets him on Monday. I enjoyed erecting tents…it’s just like playing with an erector set from childhood. We officially have Sunday off, but we think they may call us (or maybe just me) to work a few hours anyway. I’ll have to start at 7am on Monday, but Reinhart has to start at 5:30 am!!! Lunch was included Saturday and it turns out we will have 3 meals provided on non-show days (when we are doing the hardest work). Funny, normally we’d do this kind of work just for the food; so the pay is a big benefit. It was a lot of fun, and I can’t imagine it will be nearly as hard as people have been preparing us for.
