Our last days here in Acadia (edit: maybe not)

Here's a picture from the top of Parkman Mt. Maia is almost on the picture herself; she is anchored in Somes Sound just a little off Reinhart's side of the picture.

So, we’ve come once again to our anchorage in Southwest Harbor in front of the Claremont Inn (N44 16.779 W68 18.588). We sailed down on Friday evening after discovering we’d really like to have good internet and phone connection in the last few days before we leave Mt. Desert Island. We love being in communication, but we miss the short dinghy ride ashore and the extreme protection of the Somesville anchorage…no rocking or rolling or banging halyards or early lobstermen there. Its great being in a town again, though, with just a short bike ride to all the museums (and marine stores). We had a big thunderstorm last night with lots of multiple lighting strikes, booming thunder that shook the boat, and roaring winds. We watched a few boats making their way in the storm; they had probably dinghied to Southwest Harbor for dinner and had to get back home. We sat outside for about an hour of the storm but ended up going inside at 10 pm when the rain got too heavy.

We spoke to a bunch of friends at dinner Friday night when they were celebrating Emily Wilson’s birthday. It was great to speak to Emily, Christy, Lisa, and Nicol again. We missed a call from Nicol last night while she was at Rhonda and Jimmy’s party. We hated to miss the call, but we really miss being at the party! It’s too bad we can’t just Xerox ourselves and be everywhere we want to be at once.

We plan on heading to a car museum in Seal Cove today. It looks like it is a rather extensive private car collection. Reinhart is really looking forward to that. He says he doesn’t miss his cars at all, but I’ve noticed he spends a lot of time now looking at engine parts for the dinghy and trying to get it to perform at its maximum. Sometimes he drops me off at the boat and takes it for a quick spin just to see if he can get a little more speed out of it than last time.

We’ve absolutely decided we’ll be leaving here on Tuesday afternoon and arriving near Salem, Massachusetts sometime on Thursday morning. We’ll spend several days there before heading on down to Annapolis to see if we can find anywhere to anchor for the boat show. Someone we met up here told us his secret spot for anchoring at the boat show. He said it isn’t so much “anchoring” at the boat show as it is rafting across every square inch of water in Annapolis. I hope we don’t have to end up in his secret spot though, because it would make for a long bike ride to the port every day.
