Tourism and Maintenance

We are having lovely weather, so we took a tourist day on Wednesday and biked the streets of historic Annapolis, looking at all of the old houses and the historic society markers. We took an outside table and enjoyed drinks and a fantastic crab dip at McGarvey’s on the waterfront. It’s still a week until the boat show, but the waterfront is already getting crowded with folks speaking every language you can imagine.

The exceptional weather also means its time to do some maintenance on the boat before we start working from dawn to dusk for the show. We’ve spent a lot of time sanding down our wood, taping off, and varnishing. The outside dining pieces created a challenge, finding a way to paint all sides and allow them to dry without any marks…now our little dock area is full of pieces hanging to dry (the picture was taken right after the second coat). We are hoping to get 4 coats of varnish (cetol) on, but we might just get in 3 coats before its time to start working for the boat show folks. We have our orientation meeting at 3pm on Friday and then (we’ve heard) it will be constant work from that moment on until the boat show opens on 10/5; then we’ll have “normal” working days during the shows. We are also going to try to store everything we’ve impulsively tossed into our aft cabin to make room for Emily and Nicol who are coming up during the sailboat show. We are really looking forward to having them on the boat. Lisa Parks also called and we might meet her for dinner this weekend as she drives through the area…but we’ll have to wait and see what our schedule is like. It’s always great to see friends though, so we hope it works out…and maybe we can convince her to come join us for a whole weekend sometime.
