Coconut Grove has all of the things that we appreciate: The dinghy dock is free and easy to get to; the folks at the marina are reasonably accommodating; there’s an excellent library around the corner and a charming local business area to wander around. Miami as a whole has so much to see; we’ve walked on south beach and wandered the streets of the Art Deco district; we’ve been impressed by a marine industry presence we never seen the likes of anywhere. Although we had a few days of rain, for the most part we’ve had excellent weather around 80 degrees.
…and for some reason, we hate this place. We’ve been here over a week now and we are so ready to leave. We’ve been bickering with the folks that we dragged into the other night; but now everything has been worked out to the dissatisfaction of all parties. They seem like a nice couple, but we all feel like the others were trying to take advantage of us. We’ve parted with “no hard feelings”, but you all know how Reinhart and I hate this sort of conflict and it’s left a dark place for us here in Dinner Key. Reinhart and I have also been bickering amongst ourselves. We spoke to our neighbor behind us and he mentioned that there was a weird aggressive vibe in the anchorage…maybe we are picking up on that. He’s a cool guy by the way, a Brazilian captain for a couple who own a nice catamaran. We won’t get a chance to get to know him better though, since we are looking for our escape as soon as possible. We have one last mail run coming in this afternoon (oh, please come in this afternoon) and then we’ll fill up our tanks on Saturday morning and move to another anchorage near an inlet. A good weather window simply won’t present itself; the problem is there is no wind…fine, we’ll motor ourselves on over to the Bahamas on Sunday and be done with this.
Miami is a great city and I would recommend a winter visit for any of you. I get the idea; however, that we’ll never be back here again.
