A couple of days in Nassau

Here' another one that didn't find it's way to Blogger:

Ah, what nice calm nights…I’m relishing them. Not only is our anchorage calm, it is also quite interesting. We are right beside a seaplane landing strip, so every once in a while it sounds like a plane is going to crash land into us. We are near the port, so all kinds of ships are coming in and out at all times of the day, day-cruises boom by every hour, and local fishermen in small boats buzz by; all of this in crystal clear water.

We spent a hot sunny Thursday walking around a deserted Nassau and a crowded Paradise Island. Paradise Island is Disney-like in its perfection and pricey-ness. We spent a lot of time walking around the Atlantis resort with open mouths! We had a hard time finding some free wireless, but we finally found a signal near the parliament in Nassau and could download a week’s worth of emails and update the blog via email (although, oddly enough, it hasn’t updated yet, so we might be missing the amusing story of how we got here to Nassau). We are back here at the parliament on a cloudy cool Friday to reply to some of those emails and make some Skype calls. Nassau is far more crowded today than it was yesterday because five cruise ships came in this morning and thousands of people descended on Nassau. We are just about to head over to an open air market near the bridge to Paradise Island to see if there is any good seafood to purchase for our dinner tonight.

Tomorrow, we’ll sail to one of the northernmost islands of the Exuma chain of the Bahamas. This should be the start of our deserted tropical paradise / white sand / hammock hanging palm tree type of island vacation. I’m sure it will be several days before we make our way into an area with free wireless again, so we’ll have a lot to catch you up on when we are in a city again.
